What is ngTMA® ?

ngTMA® is our way of constructing tissue microarrays. As strong believers in a personalized medicine approach, tissue biomarkers and digitization in pathology, we make these tissue microarrays by integrating exceptional technology and our more-than-a-decade long experience in designing tissue microarrays, investigating and validating biomarkers. Without a doubt, the value and reproducibility of tissue biomarkers and their results can be improved using ngTMA®. Moreover, ngTMA® supports molecular studies (e.g. RNA seq) through precise punching of tissue cores, and when combined with clinical data can be of enormous value for establishing artificial intelligence algorithms.

“Our collaborations with the ngTMA team, involving their truly “next generation” human tissue microarrays, have been crucial to support the postulated existence in human cancers of new mechanisms of tumor progression identified in preclinical models, resulting in high profile co-authored publications in Cancer Cell (2018) and Nature (2019), with more exciting stories in the pipeline.”

— Prof. Douglas Hanahan, Director of Swiss Institute for Experimental Cancer Research (EPFL, Switzerland)

What makes ngTMA® unique?

ngTMA® is based on a novel workflow including scientific consulting + TMA design, digital slide annotation, automated tissue punching and documentation for quality control. Our platform is embedded in an innovative research framework and as part of the Translational Research Unit (TRU), Institute of Pathology, University of Bern, has expertise in tissue-related technology. Through partnerships with our pathologists, Tissue Bank Bern (TBB) and Insel Data Science Center, we have access to high-quality tissue samples with documented pre-analytics and detailed patient-related data.
